Itinerary

Day1:

Colombo

Ayubowan! Welcome to Sri Lanka. Meet your tour guide at Bandaranaike International Airport. You will then be transferred to your hotel in Colombo where you can refresh yourself. The rest of today is free so you can recover from jet-lag. Overnight in Colombo.

Day2:

Colombo - Sigiriya - Dambulla

After breakfast, join your tour guide and chauffeur, we will drive to Pinnawala elephant orphanage (approximately 2.5 hours). This orphaned elephants sanctuary locates in a vast span of lush greenery. Here you will have the opportunity to feed the elephants during the feeding times. After lunch, we will drive another 2.5 hours to the ancient city of Sigiriya. This UNESCO World Heritage Site is a massive rock fortress which rises 600 feet from the green scrub jungle to accentuate the lucid blue of the sky. Built in the 5th century BC, it is one of the best architectural feats of the ancient world. Its key features are the frescos and its landscaped garden is known to be Asia’s oldest surviving landscaped garden. Continue on with your trip to Dambulla, in where we will stay overnight. Day3:

Dambulla - Anuradhapura

Today, we will have one day tour to the ancient city of Anuradhapura. En route you will be able to witness the Aukana Buddha statue which was carved out of living rock in the 5th century BC. Followed by a visit to the Kalawewa Tank built in 400 AD. Here you will witness ruins of temples, dagobas and Buddha statutes. You will also visit “The Sri Maha Bodi” a giant Bo tree a sapling from the Bo tree underneath which Lord Buddha attained enlightenment, which is the most frequented Buddhist site of Anuradhapura. The fame of Anuradhapura spread as far as the ancient Hellenistic world and established diplomatic links with China. It was the royal seat to 25 Buddhist and Hindu kings and the preeminent city of the island for 1400 years. If there is sufficient time you will also visit Mihintale which is known to be the cradle of Buddhism. Transfer to hotel and check in with the assistance of your tour guide. Overnight in Anuradhapura

Day4:

Anuradhapura - Polonnaruwa - Dambulla

Check out of your hotel in Anuradhapura and leave for Pollonnaruwa yet another ancient city of the cultural triangle. It was made capital after the fall of Anuradhapura in 993 BC. Here you will witness the famed monumental ruins of the famous garden city created by King Parakramabahu I in the 12th century and also the Brahmanic monuments build during the Chola invasion. The most significant being the Library Monastery, The Citadel, the palace complex and the Vatadage. You will then be transferred back to Dambulla. Overnight in Dambulla

Day5:

Dambulla - Kandy

Today you will visit the cave temple complex of Dambulla which is known to be one of the largest cave temples of south Asia. Here you will witness ancient rock paintings of Lord Buddha. The golden triangle tour of Sri Lanka culture and religion (Dambulla/Sigiriya – Anuradhapura - Pollonnaruwa) is finished. After which you will proceed to the beautiful central highlands of Kandy. En route to Kandy you will visit a spice garden. Be transferred to you hotel in Kandy for rest and relaxation. The last event of the day will be to watch a beautiful cultural show. Overnight in Kandy

Day6:

Kandy

Have a leisure breakfast then depart to the most beautiful botanical garden in the island, the Peradenaiya botanical gardens. It is renowned for its collection of a variety of orchids. The garden consists of more than 4000 species of plants, including of orchids, spices, medicinal plants and palm trees. There is no activities in the rest time of the day, if you are still energetic, your tour guide will accompany you to a local bazaar so you can do shopping or experience the local life of Kandy. Day7:

Kandy - Nuwara Eliya

Sri Lanka is renowned for its high quality black tea. Today’s journey is to the breathtaking mountainous region of Nuwara-Eliya which is considered to be the most important location for tea production in Sri Lanka. This 3 hours road trip is packed with scenic view of tea plantations and mountains. We will visit a tea plantation and a tea factory; learn how to classify tea and their helpful uses other than beverage. Overnight in Nuwara-Eliya

Day8:

Nuwara Eliya - Horton Plains National Park

This early morning after breakfast, we will drive (approximately 1 hours) to visit Horton Plains National Park, the coldest and windiest location on the island. It contains breath taking landscapes and is important for conservation purposes. The park contains a bounty of endangered species of flora and fauna, and furthermore some of them are confined to the highlands of the island. Here you will be able to witness amazing landscapes, interspersed with rocky outcrops and beautiful lakes, many types of bird, animals and flowers. Drive back to Nuwara Eliya for overnight. Overnight in Nuwara-Eliya

Day9:

Nuwara Eliya - Yala National Park

From Nuwara Eliya you will drive down to Yala today with your chauffeur guide. Yala is a national park where you have a couple of nights to maximize your chances of seeing the leopard and sloth bear of the area. It is a long drive but there is plenty to see en route and you can ask your chauffeur-guide to stop for any photo opportunities. Overnight in Yala National Park

Day10:

Yala National Park

In the morning and late afternoon you will join safaris into the Yala National Park. These are interesting safaris and you are likely to see spotted deer, wild boar and wild elephant in addition to a wide variety of birds. If you are really lucky you may also spot sloth bear and leopard! (With on average one Leopard per square kilometre Yala has the highest density of leopard in Asia)! Overnight in Yala National Park

Day11:

Yala National Park - Galle - Bentota

Today you depart for the magical coastal city of Galle (approximately 3.5 hours driving). The area still retains much of its old world charm of the colonial period. The coast is lines with lovely boutique hotels, restaurants, bars and cafes. The Galle fort is the absolute treat of Galle. Take a stroll down its old pebble stoned alleys lines with colonial style buildings and houses most of which have been transformed into boutique hotels, restaurant and souvenir shops. In the late afternoon, continue on the journey to the beautiful coastal town of Bentota (1 hour driving from Galle to Bentota). Check in of your beautiful beach resort of Bentota. Overnight in Bentota
